Years Before The History Of Professional Wrestling

By Imelda Reid

It is human nature to aspire for something more than what one has. Even if each one has a different set of gifts, there is still this stain of discontentment which settles in the depth of human complexity. That is why no matter what status one is in, there is always an aspiration for something which one does not have, and this fact is very evident in this world where humans live.

But then there are various areas which humans can aspire for. One could clamor for prestige, beauty, fame, and wealth. But at one point, all of these lead to only one goal, which is superiority or power. Actually, such is also the concept behind the sport of wrestling. Even before the history of professional wrestling took place, the idea of superiority in this endeavor is evident.

When you say wrestling, you will see a very heated fight which showcases the physical power of each contender. As per the nature of the competition, there is no room for giving way. Each of the contestants really need to fight with all their might. Not to mention, the goal of the sport is to show who among the two is stronger and more powerful.

That is why if you watch this kind of sport on the stage, you have to be a person who loves to see other people get hurt because if you are soft hearted, you will surely faint. This kind of sport is actually brutal and very violent. Just imagine yourself burning with rage while quarreling with your enemy and you do whatever violent thing you want to do with your enemy.

For the modern world, where things like that, have been diminished, this is already quite uncomfortable to look at. But then the only good thing about this is that there are no weapons used, only physical strength. Like the hero in the English folk tale Beowulf, the contenders will just have to make use of your bare hands and body to defeat their opponent.

So basically, the contenders could only use grappling style techniques like fighting, throws, takedowns, clinch, joint locks, pins, as well as other grappling holds. Now, this sport is good for two players. But on some occasions more competitors join on the stage. Each of which are aspiring to gain the superior position among the others.

There is a wide range of styles with different rules. Every style has its own origin which were taken from both historic and modern influences. With this, its style has been incorporated into some martial arts and military hand to hand fighting style. So to speak, this sport is one of the oldest forms of combat. From the way it is done, you will see that it is the most intuitive action of human defense.

The origin of this sport has even been referenced in literary endeavor by Homer. In the Iliad, which has been referenced to have happened in as early as the thirteenth or twelfth century, the happenings during the Trojan War was recounted. Not only that, it has been said that this endeavor existed fifteen thousand years ago through the drawings in a cave.

Given that time frame, this style of combat has been developed to a professional sport. There has been two styles which were used now. One is the freestyle and the other is the Greco Roman. Over the years, it was developed until in the twentieth century, it became a popular entertainment in Europe, America, and Japan.
