Personal Training = Healthy Ambitions

By Mitch Wicking

It's that old chestnut, isn't it? Motivation. Without it you've had it. That's why so many people fail miserably when they try to get their weight loss routine off the ground or struggle to make it off the sofa to get down the gym. Trying to motivate yourself to do these things is difficult. So why not find someone who will do the motivating for you?

So now it's called Resistance Training and moving with the times it has all got a little more scientific too. Resistance training focuses on applying a resistance to a given muscle to increase the strength and tone of that muscle. Using a variety of resistance techniques, from free weights to body weight, set in a specific periodised program, will cause the body to adapt and strengthen itself. This, in turn will create a body that is stronger, healthier and looks fantastic.

You'll be using three main moves - hooks, jabs and up-cuts. A hook is a side-on punch, jab is straight on, and an up-cut involves an upwards motion. The thing with boxing is it's all about technique not strength and yet it leads to great weight loss, increased agility and coordination, muscle tone and greater fitness all round. And contrary to what you might think, boxing isn't all about the arms and shoulders; it's a cardio work-out for the whole body. It's about tone rather than muscle and it's the repetition in boxing training that helps develop this. And once again, to emphasize, there is absolutely no body-to-body contact in boxing training. You will not be entering 10 rounds with your personal trainer in a fight to the knock-out; there is no point scoring - except those metaphorical ones that your trainer feels you deserve after each session. If you're unsure how safe boxing training is, just ask your instructor. All personal trainers offering boxing training must have a suitable qualification, such as those at My Home Trainer, the UK-wide company specializing in boxing training up and down the country.

You'll be surprised how many calories you'll burn by throwing a few punches with some boxing gloves on and those who need exercise because of cardiovascular problems will also reap the rewards from boxing. Boxing is the fastest, most effective way to burn the maximum amount of calories in the shortest space of time. It works the entire body to the maximum, toning and sculpting all the muscles and provides fantastic weight loss results. It is also a seriously fun way to shed the pounds. But boxing is just one of the many types of fitness training that personal trainers adopt, and it is this fact that adds to the overall reason why the health-conscious are starting to use personal trainers rather than the gym. For instance, personal trainers can help specifically with weight management, muscle toning and shaping, resistance training for more intense muscle strengthening, training for particular sports events (such as marathons), flexibility and stretching, and abdominal training.

After all, its motivation everyone needs to succeed in any endeavor in life and getting fit is no exception. Finding that motivation on your own can be so hard. But that that is what personal trainers do. Basically, hiring a personal trainer takes away all the "fear of the gym" and instead leaves you comfortable in a one-on-one scenario that is far more conducive to following a regular fitness plan successfully. And they do it very successfully.
