Age Spots are not Beauty Marks

By Elen Hanszen

As we age, all of us seem to long for our more youthful clear skin, and are upset about age spots, and the lines and wrinkles that inevitably form. When we start to notice these imperfections, for a lot of us, it begins to affect our self esteem and confidence. If you too are worried about your skin condition and are looking for a reliable way to restore your skin then a skin peel could be your solution.

Chemical skin peels are a simple and effective way to restore your skin's natural beauty. The prominence of wrinkles and lines on the face are less pronounced after a chemical peel. The outermost part of your skin sometimes has an accumulation of dead skin cells, and a skin peel will remove these, reducing wrinkles and making it appear brighter.

If you have blemishes on your skin such as large freckles, age spots or liver spots, the use of a reliable and effective skin peel will help to reduce the appearance of these spots. Your skin will become smooth and supple with the use of chemical peels giving you a younger look. Acne can be a serious issue for some people, so a professional chemical skin peel; fewer pimples is the expected result, and less inflammation.

While something like a skin product can take weeks on end of constant usage to see results, a chemical peel is something that is over with in several sessions, or just a one time sitting. Many plastic surgery solutions are permanent and more invasive for the patient, and a peel is nowhere close to that level. The length and resulting look of a procedure like a chemical peel will be a much more noticeable effect than a simple beauty cream that claims to increase collagen levels.

A peel does what it sounds like; it actually removes layers of skin to expose the underlying cells and causes new cells to grow. As newer skin grows to replace the top layers, lines and blemishes will become more difficult to see underneath the fresh skin.

A superficial chemical peel is not painful and therefore no pain relief is needed before, during or after the procedure. For many, six superficial chemical peels are optimal, every week or 2, until the desired effect is achieved. A peel has very minimal risk when it is more superficial. For a few days after a skin peel, the side effects are still noticeable. In certain cases, skin can take on a slightly different colour after the process, and hyperpigmentation has been reported as well. The capacity for skin to produce pigment is sometimes affected after a deeper skin peel.

Maintenance is required for all kinds of skin peels afterwards, by using moisturizer, and frequent cleaning that will make skin heal faster and more smoothly, and prevent problems such as infection. Often a doctor will recommended applying sunscreen daily prior to the procedure.
