Should You Utilize A Countertop Water Filter?

A countertop water filter could be a product that you are contemplating purchasing to attempt to keep yourself and loved ones safe from contaminated water. But do water filters actually do their job? The answer could depend on what type, and from which particulates you need protection. Using products such as Pristine water purification may yield differing results than a countertop water filter system. Different filtration products are able to remove differing types and amounts of water contaminants.

We will talk a bit more regarding what a countertop water filter could protect you from, and why it might be a good solution. A countertop water filter such as an Aquasana AQ-4000 can be somewhat costly. You have to shell out about $100 to begin with, and then about $48 dollars for replacement filters. However, each filter will cover you for 500 gallons of water. They are certified to reduce chloramines, cysts, lead, bad tastes or odors, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). This is just one example of a countertop filter and the things it could protect you from in your water. For the basic goals of keeping your drinking water safe and to make it taste better, you will likely do just fine with a countertop water filtration unit like this. While it may take up some counter space, it is convenient in that filters do not need to be replaced nearly as often as some units that are more inexpensive to begin with.

Products such as Pristine water purification tablets can also be effective, but in a very different setting. Silver ion or chlorine dioxide based tablets are an excellent portable tool for when you are away from home and may need to sure up your water from not-so-trustworthy sources as your home faucet may be. These products can kill Cryptosporidium and Giardia to protect you from such waterborne illnesses in your drinking water. However, they are somewhat of a disadvantage because they can take a very long time (30 minutes up to even 4 hours) to work effectively. They are nicer than some other purification forms in that they do not typically negatively effect the taste of your water. These and other products may be enough for you if you trust the water straight from the tap in your household, but not from various other locations.

While water quality in the United States is usually quite reliable, even in the past few decades some major metropolitan areas like Washington, Milwaukee, and New York have seen large problems with waterborne illness. People who venture out into the wilderness likely know that water isn't automatically safe. Using portable filtration systems could remedy bad water situations, and countertop units may evenly protect your home. Even in areas with typically reliable water, natural disasters can render public water treatment utilities futile.

Whether you install a countertop water filter system or use portable tablets like Pristine water filtration systems you could remove various dangers from your water, and costs may also influence your decisions.
